Bowlful started with one overfed Labrador and a simple, uncomfortable truth: nobody actually knows how much to feed their pet. So we built the company we wished existed — one that treats a bowl of food like the nutrition science it really is.
When our founder Daniel's Labrador, Tucker, started slowing down at four years old, the vet's verdict was blunt: he was 22% over a healthy weight, and it was quietly straining his joints and heart. Daniel had followed the bag guidelines to the letter. That was the problem.
Those guidelines — "feed 2 to 3 cups a day" — are written for an imaginary average dog. Tucker wasn't average. No pet is. Getting him healthy again meant weighing food to the gram, tracking calories against real veterinary formulas, and adjusting every few weeks. It worked. Tucker dropped the weight and got his spark back — but doing it by hand was miserable and error-prone.
"If a spreadsheet and a kitchen scale could give my dog years back, every pet deserved that. We just had to make it effortless."
We're a nutrition company first and a subscription business second. These principles decide what we ship — and what we refuse to.
"About a scoop" isn't a plan. We portion every meal to the gram using the same resting-energy and maintenance formulas board-certified nutritionists rely on — then re-run the math whenever your pet changes.
Gram-level, not guessworkEvery recipe lists named whole ingredients — no "meat meal," no mystery. We publish our calorie math, our sourcing, and our third-party test results, because you should never have to take a pet-food label on faith.
Nothing hidden on the labelThese are family. Our nutritionists answer real questions about allergies, fussy eaters and hard diagnoses — and a slice of every plan funds fresh meals for shelter animals through our Full Bowl program.
90,000+ shelter meals donatedNo plan ships until a licensed nutritionist signs off on it. This is the team that reviews the science, formulates the recipes, and answers your questions.
Board-certified in veterinary nutrition with 14 years in clinical practice. Sarah signs off on every recipe and owns our AAFCO compliance from formula to bowl.
A former research vet who builds our recipes for life-stage balance — from puppy growth curves to senior kidney-friendly diets. Turned Wild Salmon & Oats into a bestseller.
Cats aren't small dogs. Aisha leads our obligate-carnivore recipes and taurine standards, and runs the vet chat for every feline family on a Bowlful plan.
Runs our human-grade kitchen and third-party testing program. If a batch doesn't clear his lab panel, it never leaves the building — full stop.
Plus a bench of 30+ nutritionists and vet techs reviewing plans and answering messages seven days a week. We're growing the team →
Fresh doesn't mean unregulated. Bowlful meals are formulated, cooked and tested to standards we'd want for our own kitchen table.
Every recipe meets AAFCO nutrient profiles for its life stage — verified by our board-certified nutritionists before a single meal is cooked.
Cooked in a USDA-inspected facility to the same food-safety code as restaurants — with named, human-grade proteins and whole vegetables.
Independent labs verify every batch for pathogens and nutrient accuracy. Fail the panel and it's destroyed — results are published, not buried.
